Introduced in April 2011, the pupil premium is allocated to children who are looked after by the local authority, those who have been eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years (also known as Ever 6 FSM) and for children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces.
The funding for 2024/25 is £1480 for Free School Meals Children and £2570 for Looked After Children (LAC) or previously LAC and who are adopted. Children with a parent in service receive £340
School leaders are best placed to assess their pupils’ needs and use the funding to improve attainment, drawing on evidence of effective practice. Pupil premium is not a personal budget for individual pupils and schools are not required to spend all of the allocated grant on eligible pupils.
The Government does not dictate how school leaders decide how to spend the pupil premium but it must be within the requirements of the conditions of grant.
Evidence suggests that pupil premium spending is most effective when used across 3 areas.

The Head Teacher, alongside the designated Governor monitors the effectiveness of the pupil premium spend using the provision maps and interventions and report these to the Governing Body.
